The whole armor of God

In Ephesians 6:10-20, we are commanded to put on the whole armor of God. Soldiers going to war have to be prepared and trained for what lies ahead. So they can battle and win against the enemies that will come up against them. The Christian battle is not fought in the physical but in the spiritual realm. The battle is between good and evil, right and wrong. God and the devil. God is victorious and we have the victory in Jesus’ name.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

The whole armor of God might not come naturally to everyone. But with prayer and constant practice, we should all be able to dress for success. Practice will eventually become natural and the suit will become comfortable and well fitted. But first, we need to know what the armor is and learn how to put it on.

The battle of life is a fierce one and we have to be prepared to deal with anything that the enemy will throw our way. The full armor consists of the Belt of Truth, Breastplate of Righteousness, Gospel of Peace, Shield of Faith, Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit.

The full armor

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Ephesians 6:10-20 KJV

Put on the belt of truth

The truth will hold everything else together. The truth is that Jesus is the son of the living God. He is the word and the word is truth. The belt will hold us firm and not expose our nakedness. Some people only hold on to half the truth and work with what sounds good to their ears.

Always accept the truth no matter how unfitting it might seem.“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” (John 8:32 KJV). There is no freedom without the truth, get into the bible and find the truth that you can use to counteract the lies of the devil. Refuse to listen to the lies of the devil.

Put on the breastplate of righteousness

Our righteousness before God was as filthy rags but he made us the righteousness of God in Christ. Because of the blood of Jesus that was shed at calvary’s cross for our sins. We are no longer condemned but justified by the blood of Jesus. Righteousness requires that we live a life that is holy and right in the eyes of God.

We live according to his words in the bible and by the leading of his holy spirit. The breastplate protects our heart, we need to guard our heart against the evil that wants to come in and corrupt our values. The heart is vital to your survival, so, keep it clean, healthy, and righteous.

Put on the Gospel of peace

Peace is from God, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee,” (Isaiah 26:3 KJV). We should put on peace, by keeping our mind fixed on Jesus and the things of his kingdom. A mind that is not fixed on him will wander off into the unknown and focus on things that will only bring worry and pain.

The bible reminded us to think about things that are lovely and of good report (See Philippians 4:8). Try not to worry, worry is useless in these hard times. Look to Jesus. Live a life of peace, be at peace with all men.

Hold up your shield of Faith

“So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God,” (Romans 10:17 KJV). Have faith in God and trust his words. As you hear the word your faith will grow so get into the word, spend time reading your bible, and meditating on scriptures. “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also, ” (James 2:26 KJV).

When trials and tribulation come, hide behind your shield of faith. Work your faith and believe in the impossible. Use your faith to call forth things into being. Be on your guard be ready to change the direction of your shield if necessary, don’t be caught unaware.

Put on the helmet of salvation

The helmet covers the head. The head is firm yet very delicate, it houses the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and brain. Put on your helmet and wear it all the time. Guard your mind and thoughts, so that the enemy will not destroy you. Pray to God to give you peace of mind. Remember, we are saved by grace and not by our works.

We receive the free gift of salvation the moment we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior. No one or nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus.

Take up the Sword of the Spirit

It’s hard to battle the enemy without your sword. Your sword is the word of God. Jesus is the word. Know the word, it will work for you in every area of your life. Be battle-ready with your sword. The enemy will come up with things to stop you and steal your peace. You must know the word to send him running back to hell.

Don’t wait until he has already wounded you to start fighting. Fight with faith and trust in your never-failing God. Be on the offensive, with your sword in hand. Be ready to battle from the high or low ground. Fight the good fight of faith, and make sure to put on the full armor of God. Speak words of life over yourself and your family. Remember that there is power in your words.

Prayer for the full armor of God

Dear heavenly Father, I come to you in Jesus’ mighty name. Father, please help me to put on your full armor that I will be able to stand against the evil schemes of the devil. Father anywhere that I am uncovered please cover me, Lord. Let me not be exposed or vulnerable to the tactics of the enemy. Cover me, father, under the shadow of your winds, hide me from the enemy. Father, please strengthen and guide me to a place of rest. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.
